Providing Quality Childcare

Marie Wilson

Hello my name is Marie and I’ve been childminding for 4 years. I live with my husband Andy, my three children and a very shy cat!

I have recently been awarded an outstanding grading on all aspects of my childcare from Ofsted and received a certificate from Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector (I’m pictured on the left!) My Ofsted report can be read by clicking here.

MY AIMS

-To provide a safe, structured and stimulating environment which fosters and encourages quality learning.

-To provide each child with the opportunities for learning and development to their fullest potential, through a broad and balanced range of activities.

-To celebrate success at all levels and promote excellence in all areas of the childs life.

-To encourage in each child, initiative, independence and a good work/play habit.

-To teach explicitly and by example that respect, consideration, care and concern for self and others are both desirable and essential to a community.

-To ensure that a childs time spent with me is for all an enjoyable experience and a good preparation for the future.

CHILDRENS LEARNING

I believe that a childs development is best promoted by offering them a wide variety of learning activities which are appropriate to their needs and also by talking to them and playing with them. I encourage the children to build positive relationships and develop their self esteem. I provide a wide range of play and learning opportunities including both indoor and outdoor activities and through visits out and about.

WEEKLY ACTIVITIES

Each day during term time I visit Grange Primary School and nursery to drop off and collect children including my own children Charlie and Alfie.

During the days as well as doing activities with the children at home I always try and visit a couple of toddler groups a week and also visit, and have visits from, other childminders and the children they care for. Other activities which I try and do weekly (weather/time permitting) include trips to the park, library, local shops, tumble tots, childminder drop in sessions, cooking, gardening, board games, arts ‘n’ crafts, picnics…….the list goes on!!!

During the school holidays we become a bit more adventurous and enjoy trips out to local farms, nature centres, zoos, museums, play centres and even trips to the theatre.

FOOD AND DRINK

I always offer parents the choice of whether they provide food for their child themselves or if they’d prefer that I provide all the food and drink.

Along with the main meal in the middle of the day I provide numerous snacks throughout the day. These snacks are predominantly fruit based but may also include sweet and savoury biscuits, toast and other nutritious snacks. The children are always encouraged to help with choosing and preparing their food in order to help them to make healthy choices.

Drinks are freely available at all times.

I am very flexible and aim to try and meet any dietary requirements/likes and dislikes of your child.
